BA8 covers Templecombe and surrounding rural villages in Somerset Council. The village is small but has a station on the West of England Main Line. Housing is mixed older village stock, 1930s and postwar semis on the periphery, and newer estate development from the 1980s and 1990s.

Templecombe station sits on the Salisbury to Exeter line and provides services to Salisbury, Yeovil Junction and London Waterloo. The road links are dominated by the A357 and A30. The village historically had a Royal Navy presence (Templecombe was a major communications base during the Cold War, closed in 1995).

Employment patterns are commuter into Yeovil, Salisbury and Sherborne, with limited local employment. Demographics skew older with a significant retired population.
