The typical property in BA20

BA20 covers central Yeovil and the inner residential streets in Somerset Council. Yeovil has a substantial historic town centre with a conservation area covering parts of the central streets and St John the Baptist parish church. Housing is mixed: Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the older streets, interwar semis on the periphery, and pockets of postwar redevelopment. The town centre has the Quedam Shopping Centre.

Yeovil has two stations: Yeovil Junction (in adjacent BA22) on the West of England Main Line, and Yeovil Pen Mill (in BA21) on the Heart of Wessex line. Yeovil District Hospital is a major employer.

The dominant employer in the wider Yeovil area is Leonardo Helicopters (formerly AgustaWestland and Westland Helicopters) at the Yeovil works, just outside the outcode. Other employers include Yeovil District Hospital, Yeovil College and the council.

Schools are Somerset County Council maintained provision. Demographics skew towards working families with a meaningful private-rented share around the town centre.

Somerset Council operates only mandatory HMO licensing. The Renters' Rights Act 2026 has abolished Section 21 evictions. The proposed 2030 EPC C standard, if enacted, will be a substantial cost on the Victorian and Edwardian solid-wall terrace stock.
